If I logged every visit to every pub, the ‘big’ trembling would be the most frequented.
We’ve had two family birthday party’s there, countless cheeky post-work schnitzel and chips, many large pies on a Sunday, several hangover curing breakfasts with a can of ‘schoffer’ and of course a numberless amount of pints.
Sometimes in the same weekend.

But those visits have become less frequent.
A recent change of ownership caused panic in the family… we don’t like change.
We speculated what would change, the menu (food and drink)? The (very reasonable) prices? The decor and wall art?
Sadly, two of those predictions were correct.
Schnitzel is still in the menu, but now with mash, not chips!
Sounds trivial, but that’s a huge deal to us.
Prices have crept up too, but to be fair, the food always seemed underpriced, but that was one of the reasons we kept going back.
Three cask options are still available, but on the last visit two were almost identical porters and the lighter option was off. It didn’t stop me trying both, but a porter is not for everyone.

I wouldn’t say the keg lines have been rationalised, but several ‘house’ beers have become regulars, such London Black, Steady Rolling Man and Moritz lager, as opposed to rotation.
Again, I understand the reasoning, but it’s still fixing something that wasn’t broken.
I’m sure we’ll still continue to drink there, the beer choice is still one of the best in York and it’s still the first and last between home and York centre, just more occasionally rather than often.
And at least we can revert to the ‘original’ trembling!
Just been in the "original" Trembling, the one above an offie, and thought it was even better than I remember. A fantastic beer range (Two by Two, Azvex, Kernel etc) and a decent menu.
ReplyDeleteSwings and roundabouts!
Nice. I'll expect some posts of York then? Kernel Simmonds bitter was on cadk last time I was in and many (or all) Pollys birthday collabs on keg.
