I finally try the Guinness alternative, London Black by Anspach & Hobday.
Sure, there are many alternatives in the stout/Porter category, which I am partial to, but curiosity got the better of me and this article in Pellicle forced my hand.
Was it good?
Erm… yeah I suppose. Better than Guinness?
Perhaps.
Would I try again?
Eventually, given the right circumstances. Such as no cask option and only dross keg… so same rules as choosing a Guinness then.
I think you're right, better than Guinness, but I doubt the average pubgoer will pick it over Guinness, or even know what they just had.
ReplyDeleteLondon Black pops up quite regularly in a certain sort of pub that's not quite craft, bit like Deya or Verdant.
